Microsoft, once an ardent proponent of proprietary software, is no longer fighting the growing army of open source developers worldwide and in the Philippines. In fact, it will soon open in the country its first interoperability lab in Asia.

The software behemoth’s local subsidiary teamed up with the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) and the National Computer Center (NCC) for the establishment of the Microsoft Open Source Interoperability Lab, which will officially begin operations in September this year.

Well, its cool, and I like it. More and more, ads are not supposed to fork out information. It just makes you feel good and reminds you that here is a sincere company that is trying to do what it can to make technology easier and more enjoyable to use.

My eNGy Business cartoons have been taking up most of my time over this blog. For readers of this blog, I am endeavoring to bridge this gap. Ever since I released the toons, I have published 3 books on the cartoon series, and the first 2 are available as free ebook downloads. The first has exceeded 3,000 downloads, while the second, as of this writing, is nearing 1,200 downloads.

I have added another twists — apparently, my experiences spawns business blog articles, or adding a twist, spawns a humor cartoon. I am now trying to reconcile both - combining the humor, as well as the management lessons I learned.

Intel is expected to announce the "Dunnington" processor later this month, the first six-core processor and last of its Penryn-class chips.

Intel on September 15 is expected to roll out the Intel Xeon 7400 series Dunnington processor targeted at the server market, the final member of the "Penryn" family of processors, according to sources at server vendors. Starting Sept 23, 2008, users who fail to activate or fail validation will experience a plain black desktop background and a persistent notice on their desktop near the system tray. The persistent notice indicates that they may be a victim of software counterfeiting. The background can be reset by the user to another background, but every 60 minutes the desktop will be reset to the plain black background to reinforce the message that is in the persistent desktop notice. The background will continue to be reset to the plain black color and the persistent notice will remain until a genuine copy of Windows is installed and validated.

Microsoft file format approved as ISO standard - Yahoo! News

The format used by Microsoft Corp.’s Office 2007 programs to save documents will become an international standard after appeals against the move failed to gather sufficient support, the International Organization for Standardization said Friday.

The decision ends months of wrangling over whether Microsoft’s Office Open XML format should be considered an open standard — a requirement for many lucrative government contracts.
